Welcome to Year 5! We are looking forward to lots of exciting learning experiences ahead. Over the year we have planned exciting topics to capture the imagination of the children and help them reach their full potential. There will also be lots of wider learning experiences such as trips and topic days.
Our teachers are Miss Burford (Atlantic), Miss Hutton (Ocean) and Mr Cottle (Pacific)
What we've been doing:
Children As Critics Project
27th February 2017
Mrs Trueman has developed a partnership with Julia Green who is Programme Leader, MA Writing for Young People Bath Spa University. The project involves students on the course visiting small groups of age appropriate children, who read excerpts of their new stories and comment on what they like and dislike. During World Book Week we had two budding authors visit our children: Vicky Baker met with 9 Y5 girls on Monday 27th Feb and Julie Pike met with 11 Y5 girls on Tuesday 28th Feb. Both authors were delighted with the enthusiasm and politeness of our children!
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the wonderful opportunity yesterday. To be able to have the Y5 girls critique my work was really fun. They gave me great insight and their comments were very well thought out. I feel heartened that Izzy is a likeable character to her target audience!
I loved her book, the author was super-nice!
I liked how she listened to what we had to say and she was very kind to us. It was very funny and it’s my type of book.
(The session was) fun. We should have more things like that. A fantastic book. Thanks!
Thanks again for a wonderful afternoon at PSJ. I really did have the most excellent time. I've just read everyone's notes and they're very helpful. I will start on my edits tomorrow.
I want to say thanks to Julie for coming to see us. I loved the book.
I really enjoyed Julie Pike’s visit to our school because I learnt some of her writing tips and giving her some advice was fun.
I enjoyed expressing our own ideas and suggesting changes to the Author.
I enjoyed the fact that the Author listened and took notes on our ideas.
I really liked the Author and her book. I also liked how she answered all our questions.
