Our School

Inclusion

At Peasedown St John Primary School we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of race, gender, sexuality, disability, faith or religion or socio-economic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life.

The achievement of pupils is monitored by ethnicity, gender, FSM, EAL and SEN and we use this data to support pupils, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching. We will tackle discrimination by the positive promotion of equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes and creating an environment which champions respect for all.

At Peasedown St John Primary School we believe that diversity is a strength, which should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit the school.

In February 2008, the school was awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark. This was renewed in November 2010. The Inclusion Mark Inspectors reported,

'The school has a commitment to inclusion at all levels of management. There is an Inclusion Policy in place that has been produced through consultation and feedback. The schools Management Team promotes high standards both academically and pastorally. There is appropriate challenge to both staff and pupils to achieve the standards set. It is clear that in embracing inclusion, the school does not lower standards. Indeed, the school sees the inclusion of every child as an opportunity to review, reflect and encourage practices that benefit all pupils in the school. There are clear, but personalised, high expectations that all pupils can achieve.'
